Adventures in Learning Blender! #1

So, learning Blender has been on my list for a long time.

My history with modelling software goes back to making models for Quake2, then Quake3 with Milkshape3D, to using 3DSMax, to Maya6 and Silo, … but I never really learned the whole suite of things (modelling and UV-mapping and materials and rigging and animation all in one).

I knew how to do some of those things in one, and some in the other, and to be honest I’m not super artistic (I mainly wanted to learn them so I could make placeholder content for my projects) so I didn’t end up using them enough to get good at any one of them.

Then Blender came onto the scene, freely available, and everyone seemed to love it, but I just couldn’t get used to the weird interface on it… and then one day Blender 2.8 dropped, with its new renderer and industry compatible UI/controls, and I thought I’d give it another go!

… but then life got busy and so it wasn’t until I took my work sabbatical (by then Blender 3.2.1 was out) that I actually managed to find the time to sit and get stuck into some courses!

I had previously been bought a number of Blender courses so I had plenty to chew on, and the image at the top is the result of completing one of them 🙂

It feels good to be finally starting out this journey, I’m learning a lot of new things all at once at the moment (being on sabbatical and all), but I fully intend to continue to devote time to this Blender journey!
